Album Description
This ballad is a true story in song based on the book, BAH,BAH,BLACK SHEEP. Haney Horace Hix Liddell was a notorious southwestern outlaw, born in 1893 in Oklahoma Indian Territory, which is now Love County,Oklahoma. He spent most of his life in Gainesville,Texas, the son of John Clower and Emma Bracewell Liddell,Sr. His first job was as a salesman in his father's firm,a very successful cotton brokerage company. Haney turned away from a bright future by thumbing his nose at law and order, and becoming a hunted felon. At age 24 he killed a tenant farmer in Love County. In 1927 he was indicted for a fraudulent scheme to obtain loans on Indian land which he did not own. In January 1928,he and an accomplice robbed the Love County National Bank in which crime he killed the local sheriff, but later escaped and was placed on the "Most Wanted" list. In November 1928 he was mortally wounded in an attempt to rob the First National Bank in Marietta,OK. He died in a jail cell on November 21,1928.

This ballad tells the actual life of 1920's outlaw Haney Liddell. In fact, it is a musical narration or "soundtrack" that accompanies the book Bah, Bah, Blacksheep. It is reminiscent of the type of story-in-song that Johnny Cash might have embraced. The singer/songwriter displays a hefty dose of the talent and commercial appeal inherent in modern Texas musicians. His clever lyrics and expressive voice capture the essence of Liddell's fall from grace. The book and CD perfectly complement each other.
